Van 20 tm 29 oktober heeft het toegewijde medische team bestaande uit Dr. Metsers, Dr. Kroese, Dr. Koning, Bas Corton, Esther Seuren en Anke Veens. Zij werkten samen met lokale artsen om kinderen uit arme gezinnen in Zuid-Peru een nieuwe glimlach en een betere toekomst te geven Tijdens deze intensieve weken werden reconstructieve operaties uitgevoerd bij kinderen met schisis, en krijgen zij de zorg die hun leven voorgoed verandert. Met kennisoverdracht, samenwerking en compassie bouwen we verder aan duurzame gezondheidszorg voor de meest kwetsbare kinderen van Peru.
Na een lange reis vanuit Amsterdam is het schisisteam van Dr. Esther Metsers, Dr. Henriette Croese, Dr. Mark Koning, Bas Corton, Esther Seuren en Anke Veens veilig aangekomen in Arequipa Vandaag een welverdiende rustdag — morgen begint het selectiespreekuur, waarna van 21 tot en met 31 oktober 30 tot 35 kinderen geopereerd zullen worden. Het team biedt, samen met PazHolandesa, een volledig behandeltraject aan: van preoperatieve zorg tot operatie, spraaktherapie en tandverzorging. .

We zijn trots om hier te staan tussen zoveel vakmensen en om het verhaal te delen van de vrouwen en jongeren in de Peruaanse Andes die onze specialty coffee verbouwen, én van de kinderen in Arequipa die dankzij de verkoop van Misti Coffee gratis medische zorg ontvangen via PAZHolandesa.

Een nieuw schisispatiëntje in Arequipa, onder de zorg van Dr. Gustavo Florez en het team van PAZHolandesa.
Vandaag zagen we dit prachtige jongetje, nog maar één maand oud en geboren met een bilaterale schisis (lip- en gehemeltespleet).
Dankzij donaties uit Nederland konden wij DynaCleft aanschaffen — een innovatief, klinisch bewezen hulpmiddel dat vóór de operatie helpt de afstand tussen lip en gehemelte te verkleinen.
Onder begeleiding van Dr. Gustavo Florez, coördinator van het schisisproject, wordt deze methode toegepast om de baby optimaal voor te bereiden op zijn eerste operatie. DynaCleft is een niet-invasieve methode die zachte, gecontroleerde druk uitoefent om lip en gehemelte naar elkaar toe te brengen, waardoor de eerste operatie eenvoudiger wordt en de chirurgische resultaten beter zijn.
De elastische, huidvriendelijke pleisters passen zich aan bij het voeden, huilen of glimlachen, en verminderen huidirritatie. Dankzij deze ondersteuning kunnen onze chirurgen het kind later met nog meer precisie en veiligheid opereren
