Van 20 tm 29 oktober heeft het toegewijde medische team bestaande uit Dr. Metsers, Dr. Kroese, Dr. Koning, Bas Corton, Esther Seuren en Anke Veens. Zij werkten samen met lokale artsen om kinderen uit arme gezinnen in Zuid-Peru een nieuwe glimlach en een betere toekomst te geven Tijdens deze intensieve weken werden reconstructieve operaties uitgevoerd bij kinderen met schisis, en krijgen zij de zorg die hun leven voorgoed verandert. Met kennisoverdracht, samenwerking en compassie bouwen we verder aan duurzame gezondheidszorg voor de meest kwetsbare kinderen van Peru.
In samenwerking met Dr. Frank Froeling (kinderuroloog, Nederland) bereidt het team in Arequipa zich voor op de komende Pediatric Urology Mission 2025.
In vier korte video’s legt Dr. Froeling uit welke aandoeningen centraal staan: spina bifida, hypospadias, urineweginfecties en incontinentie.
Deze informatiecampagne bereikt inmiddels duizenden families in Zuid-Peru en helpt kinderen die anders geen toegang zouden hebben tot specialistische zorg.

Mía is 10 maanden oud en werd geboren met een macrostomie (is aangeboren aandoening waarbij de mondhoek niet normaal is aangelegd, waardoor de mond aan één of beide kanten te groot lijkt.). Ze komt uit Anta, in de buurt van Cusco, en werd vorige week geopereerd door het team van Free Smile Foundation. Gisteren kwam ze terug naar onze kliniek voor haar postoperatieve controle – ze herstelt prachtig.
Deze week zullen 17 kinderen uit ons schisis project geopereerd worden. Al 25 jaar biedt PAZHolandesa in Arequipa een volledig behandeltraject aan kinderen zonder economische middelen. Samen geven we hen een nieuwe glimlach en toekomst.
Afgelopen zaterdag 24 augustus hebben we een gratis medische campagne gehouden in de wijk Villa Ecologico (Alto Selva Alegre) van Arequipa. 55 Kinderen werden gezien en getest op bloedarmoede. 90% van deze kinderen lijden aan bloedarmoede en ontvingen buiten voedingsadviezen, ijzerpreparaten. Volgende maand gaan we weer terug naar deze locatie om meer kinderen te kunnen zien en de resultaten te bekijken bij de eerste groep kinderen.
