Van 20 tm 29 oktober heeft het toegewijde medische team bestaande uit Dr. Metsers, Dr. Kroese, Dr. Koning, Bas Corton, Esther Seuren en Anke Veens. Zij werkten samen met lokale artsen om kinderen uit arme gezinnen in Zuid-Peru een nieuwe glimlach en een betere toekomst te geven Tijdens deze intensieve weken werden reconstructieve operaties uitgevoerd bij kinderen met schisis, en krijgen zij de zorg die hun leven voorgoed verandert. Met kennisoverdracht, samenwerking en compassie bouwen we verder aan duurzame gezondheidszorg voor de meest kwetsbare kinderen van Peru.
Van woensdag tot en met vrijdag kregen 19 kinderen met schisis hun levensveranderende operatie het Peruaanse Qorito team o.l.v. Dr.Bardales, plastisch chirurg. En werden er gedurende vijf dagen 200 kinderen geholpen met gebitsreiniging door studenten van de Universiteit van Colorado.
Vijf dagen, twee campagnes, 219 kindergezichten die weer kunnen stralen!
Deze kleine helden verdienen alle zorg van de wereld. Elke operatie betekent niet alleen een nieuwe glimlach, maar ook nieuwe kansen en mogelijkheden voor hun toekomst.

Totaal aantal geopereerde kinderen 38. Met medisch team van Healing the Children, New Jersey, USA, bestond naast de twee plastisch chirurgen Dr.Sanjay Lalla en Dr.Randy Wojcik, uit Dr.Stephen Zarelli en Dr.Mary Quincy, anestesisten, Dr.Jeff Bienstock, kinderarts, ondersteund door 17 oa. ok verpleegkundigen, anesthesie -assistenten, vertalers en administratief personeel. Van 30 oktober tm. 10 november heeft het medisch team onder leiding van Dr.Reinier van Twisk, plastisch chirurg, 44 schisiskinderen geopereerd.
Van 13 tm 22 november hebben Dr.Frank Froeling, kinderuroloog en Dr.Liem Lie, uroloog, spreekuren en operaties verricht in het tweede Kinderurologische operatieproject van dit jaar, focus ligt op de spinabifidapatientjes en op kinderen met een urologisch geboortedefect.
