30 huisartsen van de Nascholingsreis Travel Medicine Training Peru, georganiseerd door Health Education (NL), brachten een bezoek aan Clínica PAZHolandesa in Arequipa.
Zij werden rondgeleid door de algemeen directeur Dr. Mario León. De Nederlandse geneeskundestudenten van de RUG vertelden daarnaast over hun waardevolle stage-ervaringen van de afgelopen drie maanden.
Een inspirerende ontmoeting vol uitwisseling van kennis en ervaring!
Mía is 10 maanden oud en werd geboren met een macrostomie (is aangeboren aandoening waarbij de mondhoek niet normaal is aangelegd, waardoor de mond aan één of beide kanten te groot lijkt.). Ze komt uit Anta, in de buurt van Cusco, en werd vorige week geopereerd door het team van Free Smile Foundation. Gisteren kwam ze terug naar onze kliniek voor haar postoperatieve controle – ze herstelt prachtig.
Afgelopen week vond het operatieproject plaats met het team van Free Smile Foundation o.l.v. Dr. David Gailey. Zij opereerden 17 kinderen met een schisis, samen met ons lokale team: Dr. Florez (coördinator van het project), het operatie- en verplegend personeel van de kliniek en de laatstejaars geneeskundestudenten van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Liedeke en Daphne. Samen geven we kinderen zonder financiële middelen een nieuwe glimlach en een toekomst vol hoop.
Deze week zullen 17 kinderen uit ons schisis project geopereerd worden. Al 25 jaar biedt PAZHolandesa in Arequipa een volledig behandeltraject aan kinderen zonder economische middelen. Samen geven we hen een nieuwe glimlach en toekomst.
Onze sociaal werkster Flor Neyra bezoekt samen met Liedeke en Daphne, twee geneeskundestudenten van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) de kinderen die deelnemen aan onze sociale projecten.
Elk (schisis, spina bifida of down)patiëntje wordt meerdere keren bezocht – niet alleen voor medische opvolging, maar ook om de families praktisch te ondersteunen en hun vertrouwen te versterken. Deze bezoeken zijn vaak een brug tussen het ziekenhuis en het dagelijkse leven van de kinderen en hun ouders.
Voor de studenten is dit een unieke kans om kennis te maken met sociale geneeskunde in de praktijk. Zij ervaren hoe belangrijk het is om zorg dichter bij de mensen te brengen, vooral bij gezinnen die de weg naar het ziekenhuis niet altijd zelf kunnen vinden.
Zo bouwen we met elk huisbezoek samen aan een gezondere en hoopvollere toekomst voor de kinderen van Arequipa
